Scientists believe that inflammation, immune system activity, gut microbes, and signaling molecules may all play a role in this relationship. Disruptions in these pathways could potentially influence both gastrointestinal symptoms and migraine activity.

Some studies have even suggested that treating underlying gastrointestinal conditions may help reduce migraine frequency or severity in certain individuals, although researchers emphasize that more studies are needed before definitive conclusions can be drawn.
