Abstracts feature results from two nationwide surveys of over 100,000 members of Evidation’s online health community; Results contextualize GLP-1s amongst weight management strategies and highlight persisting post-pandemic barriers to care
May 6th, 2024, SAN MATEO, CA—Evidation, the market leader in health research solutions for understanding health in everyday life, will be presenting recent research findings in two accepted abstracts at this year’s International Society for Pharmacoeconomics and Outcomes Research (ISPOR) conference in Atlanta, Georgia.
Behaviors and Characteristics of Current and Previous Users of Glucagon-Like Peptide-1 Receptor Agonists (GLP-1) in an Online Health Community (#EPH32) shares results from a weight management survey of 109,126 people on the Evidation app. Ten percent of those surveyed reported current or past use of GLP-1s. Current GLP-1 users were more likely to have private insurance and to be targeting more significant weight loss. The majority of past users surveyed reported being dissatisfied or very dissatisfied with their weight, and were also less likely to be using other weight management strategies (including diet, exercise, coaching programs, and oral medications) that they had utilized previously.
Social Determinants of Health Associated with Delayed Medical Care in an Online Health Community (#EPH199) illuminates critical and persistent barriers to timely medical care from a survey of 203,486 US adults. Over a third (37%) of those surveyed delayed essential medical care for a variety of reasons including financial hardship, lack of transportation, and employment status.
“Evidation connects directly with individuals to gain visibility into their lived experiences—including their experiences on certain treatments and barriers they face when accessing care,” said Nell Marshall, PhD, Senior Director of Research and Market Strategy at Evidation. “Our research identified significant and specific unmet needs in both weight management and care access that warrant further investigation. This kind of primary, direct-to-participant research is especially appropriate in the context of weight management and access because it includes insights that may not be captured in other sources of real-world data or in clinical settings.”
Data collected for these abstracts was directly permissioned by individuals using the Evidation app. Almost 5 million Members strong, Evidation rewards users for engaging in healthy activities and contributing to health research. Members earn points by tracking activities like walking, sleeping, and logging food through the app, which also integrates with a variety of fitness-tracking apps and devices. These points can then be redeemed for cash or donated to charity.
This transparent approach to research and data collection makes it possible to directly engage individuals in ways that are convenient and sticky for them. Using Evidation, health researchers can comprehensively characterize and measure disease onset and progression, treatment impact, quality of life, and social determinants of health across diverse populations over longer observation periods.
