Let’s start with your name and what you do at Evidation, please.

I’m Joyce! I am a Clinical Research Manager. I work closely with the Outcomes Solutions team who designs, builds, and monitors our clinical programs and help ensure our clinical programs are being conducted according to Good Clinical Practice (GCP).

Where’s home? Where’d you grow up?

I was born and raised in Winnipeg, Manitoba in Canada, but both my parents are from Ghana.

How’d you end up here?

I started my career in social services working with street and shelter dwelling families exiting homelessness and then decided to return to a career that embodied my love for science and helping vulnerable populations. I had previously been a research assistant across various behavioral focused studies during my undergrad and ended up transitioning into a career in clinical drug development. I’ve worked in clinical research, clinical operations, and program management-based roles specific to psychiatric disorders, cardiology, chronic pain, and oncology/immunotherapy mainly within the pharmaceutical industry. After grad school, I was looking for an innovative company that shared my values around participant empowerment and came across a few journal articles with studies run by Evidation – the rest is history.

Do you have any fun (ok, weird) hobbies?

My ‘fun’ hobby is chasing waterfalls in tropical places! My great grandma’s farm (which is actually more like a tropical rainforest) has a 225 ft waterfall on it!

My other hobbies are my passion projects NorkaiAdvocates (something I started to help patients/caregivers understand the intricacies associated with participating in clinical trials and their medical options). I am also trying to build an integrated health clinic in Prampram, Ghana. Both take up a lot of my “free” hobby time.

What’s been your best day (so far) at Evidation?

Attending the All-Hands Offsite in Monterey. I was fairly new and really got to learn about the intricacies and culture of the company and connect with my new coworkers!

Favorite song?

Anything by Drake..I have a true obsession!

What’s your favorite thing to do to earn points on Achievement?

Reading the health articles on Medium and tracking my step count

If you could have one superpower, what would it be and why?

Instantly teleport anywhere I needed/wanted to be

Which came first, the chicken or the egg?

As a genetics enthusiast, I recently heard that the mixture of genes from two birds that weren’t quite chickens but similar to chickens created a chicken egg, meaning the egg came first.
