We created a better picture of how conditions like endometriosis and uterine fibroids affect people's daily lives—including how these conditions impact people differently due to racial disparities – using survey responses and data from wearables.
Quick Facts
Fast Data Collection
- ~5 weeks to gather retrospective wearable and survey data from nearly 10,000 U.S. women
Diverse Population
- 35% White
- 31% Black
- 23% Hispanic or Latinx
- 9% Asian or Pacific Islander
Meaningful Insights
- Continuous measurement revealed that those living with endometriosis and/or uterine fibroids (UF) tend to be less active than individuals living without
- 21% reported being unable to complete daily tasks during every menstrual cycle, adding up to approximately 3 months of the year
Challenge
- Endometriosis and UF are common and serious health problems, but a lack of real-world evidence about the experience of living with these diseases has limited our understanding and development of interventions that could improve lives
- Evidation's unique ability to connect with individuals outside the clinical setting matched Myovant's commitment to gaining a thorough understanding of the day-to-day experiences of people living with endometriosis and/or UF
- With the goal of raising awareness, Myovant approached Evidation with two main objectives:
- Explore the lived experiences of individuals with endometriosis and/or UF
- Compare how racial differences affect individuals’ disease burden
Approach
- In October 2022, Evidation and Myovant co-designed a survey that received responses from a racially diverse population of nearly 10,000 Evidation members to examine their experiences with endometriosis and uterine fibroids
- In addition to the survey, Evidation also analyzed permissioned wearable data on physical activity, sleep, and resting heart rate over a 12-month period
- The project kicked off quickly, with just 5 weeks between the launch of the survey and the delivery of the results
Endometriosis and uterine fibroids substantially impact both quality of life and physical mobility—and disproportionately affect individuals across racial groups.
This reality is clearly shown through our survey results and wearable data.
Impact
- With these findings, Myovant highlighted the need for more research and resources for menstruating people
- Myovant helped spotlight the importance of workplace and school accommodations for their individuals with these conditions
- This partnership ultimately helped menstruating people – particularly those living with endometriosis and/or UF – know they are not alone. Menstrual champion programs like period.org and the Fibroid Foundation's Workplace Reset are dedicated to improving outcomes for all who menstruate, including those suffering from these conditions.
